On
the banks of River Tunabhadra is Hampi,
which was once the capital city of the
Vijayanagar kingdom in the 14th –
16th century. This once flourishing and
powerful dynasty was the home of many
extravagant temples, palaces, and festivals.
But after a 6 months Muslim, the dynasty's
civil, spiritual structural was destroyed.
Surviving this gruesome attack were only
a few structures, still stand in their
original places today.
Hampi has a lot of special references
in the Ramayana. Tourists to Goa visit
this land of historical ruins, the two
most popular sites are near the Hampi
Bazaar – and the other is near the
riverside are the remains of temples.
Near Kamalapuram village are the remains
of the palace, stables, pavilions, temples
and guards quarters. Other heritage sites
are the still functioning Virupaksha Swami
temple, Achutya Bazaar, Tiruvengalanatha
Temple, Agni Temple, Vitthala Temple and
King's Balance.
