Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu – Heritage tourism destination
Kanchi has a history that goes way back to the medieval era. The Pallavas built the heritage town of Kanchipuram in the 4th century after which it flourishing steadily as a spiritual center during the ruling of the Cholas, Pandyas and the Vijayanagar dynasties. With these passing dynasties and their successors, grand temples for Lord Shiva, Lord Vishnu and the Godess Kamashi were built in and around the town. Till date Ekambareshvara Temple, Kailasanatha Temple (the oldest structure in Kanchi), Kamashi Amman Temple, Vaikuntha Perumal Temple and Varadarajaperumal Temple are still functioning as thousands of tourists and localities visit these temples throughout the year.
