The Palace City of Karnataka was the power
capital of the Wadiyar Rajas is a city
of beautiful gardens, well-planned roadways,
and temples. The city's heritage wonders
are the Maharaja Palace, Jaganmohan Palace
and Jayachamarajendra Art Gallery. According
to the Hindu scriptures, Mahishur as it
was early called, is the place where Goddess
Chamundeshwari of Chamundi Hills killed
the wicked buffalo-headed demon, Mahishasura.
Celebrating this glorious history is the
annual Dusssehra Festival that starts
off from the Maharaja's Palace. On the
10th day of this colourful festival, a
grand procession of the palace deity on
an elephant is taken around the main city

| Indo-Saracenic styled domes,
turrets, arches and colonnades beautify
the Maharaja's Palace. The interiors of
the Palace is rich with colorful murals,
mirror works and paintings of exquisite
art from all over the world. The majestic
Public Durbar Hall and Private Durbar are
adorned with stained glass and glass-leaf
paintings, silver embossed doors, flamboyant
ceiling and corridors of sculpted pillars.
Near Mysore is Chamundi Hill's 17th century
Nandi, a majestic 4.8 metre monolith seated
on top of the 12th century temple of Chamundeshwari.
